We start to loosen up a bit when we move into our 50s, I think; not coincidentally, this aligns with the upswing of what is called the U-shaped happiness curve. And that makes the prospect of a longer healthspan so inviting.
We've got plenty more of the good life ahead of us to enjoy... mostly on our own terms.
Dwelling on past mistakes makes you more likely to repeat those same mistakes, and that defeats the purpose of hard-earned lessons learned. Research in this area advises to focus on what you can do now and in the future:Instead of dwelling on the past ... research into behavior suggests that setting goals for the future can positively change present behavior. In short, if we want to have better self-control, “Look forward, don’t look back.”
We've got plenty of time left to live the lives we want. But we don't have time for regret.
